What we do

Plumbing and drainage, from a dripping tap to a burst pipe.

Choose a service to see what's involved, what to do right now, and what happens when you call.

All services
  • Call if urgent

    Emergency plumbing

Burst pipes, water through the ceiling, no water at all. Call and we'll help you make it safe, then sort the repair.

  • Call if urgent

    Blocked drains

Sinks, toilets, showers and outside drains that won't clear. We find the blockage, clear it and tell you what caused it.

  • Drain cleaning

Slow drains, smells that come and go, blockages that keep coming back. We clean out the build-up, not just the latest blockage.

  • Leak repairs

Dripping taps, running toilets, damp patches and pipes weeping under the sink. Traced back to the source and repaired.

  • Pipe repairs & replacement

Split, corroded, frozen or badly joined pipes. Repaired, or replaced where repairing would only move the problem along.

  • Hot water & water heaters

No hot water, a leaking cylinder or an immersion heater that's stopped working. Diagnosed, repaired, or replaced where needed.

  • Taps, toilets, sinks & showers

New taps, sinks, toilets and showers fitted properly — connected, sealed and tested — whether you've bought them or need advice on what to buy.

  • Not sure what you need?

Most plumbing problems are easier to describe than to name. Tell us what you can see and hear, and we'll work out the rest.

If it can't wait

Water where it shouldn't be? Call us now.

Don't wait for a reply to a form. Ring 01223 482425, tell us what you can see, and we'll help you make it safe while we arrange the repair.

  • A burst or leaking pipe
  • Water coming through a ceiling
  • A blocked or overflowing toilet
  • A drain backing up or overflowing
  • No water at all
  • A tap or valve that won't turn off

While you're calling us

Three things that limit the damage:

  1. Turn off the water at the stopcock — usually under the kitchen sink. Turn it clockwise.
  2. If water is near electrics, switch off at the fuse box, but only if it's safe to reach.
  3. Open the cold taps to drain the pipes, and catch drips with buckets and towels.

Smell gas? That isn't a plumbing call. Leave the property and ring the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.

Why people call us

Straightforward plumbing, explained as we go.

No sales script and no pressure. These are the things we do on every job — whether it's a washer or a new cylinder.

  • You'll know what's happening

We tell you what we've found, what we suggest and what it'll cost — before we start. If we find something unexpected partway through, we stop and talk to you.

  • Repair first, replace when it's right

If something can sensibly be repaired, we'll say so. We won't push a replacement you don't need.

  • Local, and staying local

We work in the towns and villages around our base, not across the whole country. If you need us again about a job, we're easy to get hold of.

  • Honest about what we don't do

Some jobs need a specialist, such as gas or electrical work. If yours does, we'll tell you rather than take it on.

  • Tested before we leave

We turn the water back on, check every joint we've touched and make sure drains are flowing before we call a job finished.

  • Small jobs are welcome

A dripping tap or a running toilet is worth a call. It's better to fix it now than after it's damaged something.

How it works

Four steps, and you're in control of every one.

  1. Step 1

    Tell us what's wrong

Call, or send a callback request. Tell us what's happening, where you are and how urgent it feels.

  2. Step 2

    We work out what's needed

We ask a few questions, and look at photos if you have them, to understand the job before we arrive.

  3. Step 3

    You agree before we start

We explain what needs doing and what it costs. Nothing goes ahead without your say-so.

  4. Step 4

We fix it and tidy up

We test the repair, clear up after ourselves and tell you what we did.

Our guarantee

If something we've done isn't right, tell us.

We'd rather hear about a problem than have you live with it. Our guarantee page explains, in plain English, what you can expect from us and what to do if you're not happy with a job.

Read our guarantee
  • The work and the price agreed with you before we start
  • No extra work without asking you first
  • Everything tested before we leave
  • If something we did isn't right, we come back and look at it

Questions

Questions people ask before they call.

Can't see yours? Call and ask — there's no obligation.

How do I know if my plumbing problem is an emergency?

Treat it as an emergency if water is escaping and you can't stop it, water is near anything electrical, you've lost your water supply, or sewage is backing up into the house. In those cases, call us rather than filling in a form. A dripping tap, a running toilet or a slow sink is worth fixing, but can usually wait for a booked visit.

Can I get a quote before you start?

Yes. Tell us what's wrong on the phone or through the callback form. For some jobs we can give you an idea of cost from a description or a photo; for others we need to see it first. Either way, we agree the price with you before any work begins.

Which areas do you cover?

We're based in Cambridge and work across the towns around it — including Ely, Newmarket, Huntingdon, St Ives, St Neots, Saffron Walden, Royston, Haverhill and Bury St Edmunds. The full list is on our Areas We Cover page. If you're nearby but not listed, call and ask.

What should I have ready when I call?

Your postcode, a short description of what's happening and when it started, and whether you've turned the water off. If you can, take a photo or two. It also helps to know whether you have a combi boiler or a hot water cylinder, and anything we should know about parking or access.

Where is my stopcock?

Usually under the kitchen sink. If not, try a downstairs toilet, the airing cupboard, under the stairs, the garage, or wherever the water pipe comes into the house. Turn it clockwise to shut the water off. It's worth finding it now, before you need it.

Do you work for businesses as well as homes?

Yes. We work in homes and for local businesses. Tell us about the property and how it's used, and we'll arrange a time that causes the least disruption.

How can I contact you?

Call 01223 482425 — that's the quickest way, and the right one for anything urgent. For quotes and jobs that can wait, send an enquiry using the form on our home or contact page, or email Urgentplumbing01@gmail.com.

Tell us what's gone wrong.

Call and describe the problem. We'll tell you what we think it is, what's likely to be involved, and what happens next.
